When the rear seatback is in the
upright position, keep the center
safety belt latched to the buckle
with the key hole. Only release
the belt from this buckle when
you need to fold down the rear
seatback.
Do not leave a seat folded down
unless it is necessary.
See the following, earlier in this
section, for more information:
• Folding Rear Seatback
Before fastening the rear center
belt, make sure it is properly
installed.
1. Push the latch plate at the
end of the safety belt strap
into the buckle with key hole.
Make sure the mechanism
clicks and the strap is not
twisted.
2. Pull the belt across you and
insert the latch plate into
the buckle until it clicks.

To unlatch the belt:
• Push the red release button on
the buckle .
When you need to fold down the
rear seatback, press the tip of a key
into the release slot on the buckle
to release the latch plate from
the buckle. Allow the belt to
retract.
After returning the rear seatback to
the upright position, do the
following:
1. Push the latch plate at the
end of the safety belt strap
into the buckle with the key
hole.
Make sure the mechanism
clicks and the strap is not
twisted.
CAUTION
A safety belt that is twisted or
improperly attached or routed
won't provide the protection
needed in a crash. After raising
a rear seatback, always make
sure that the safety belts are
not twisted and that they are
properly attached and routed.
CAUTION
To minimize the risk of severe
injury or death in the event of a
crash, always wear the safety
belt with both latches buckled.
