Safety Belt Reminder Light
This light should come on for
several seconds when the ignition
is turned to the on position, as a
check to show you it is working
properly.
Then, unless the driver’s safety belt
is already buckled, the safety
belt light will flash for about
90 seconds or until the driver's belt
is buckled.
If, after 90 seconds, the driver’s
belt is still not buckled, the light
will stop flashing and will remain
illuminated to remind you to
fasten your safety belts.
Then, if the driver’s belt is still not
buckled the first time the vehicle
speed exceeds 22 km/h, a chime
may sound and the light will flash
again for up to 90 seconds.

CAUTION
A crash can damage the
restraint systems in your
vehicle. A damaged restraint
system may not properly
protect the person using it,
resulting in serious injury or
even death in a crash.
Have the restraint systems
inspected after a collision.
Make any necessary
replacements as soon as
possible.

SAFETY BELT
PRETENSIONERS
(IF EQUIPPED)
Your vehicle may be equipped
with automatic safety belt
pretensioners for each front seat.
Pretensioners help the safety belts
reduce a person's forward move-
ment in the event of a moderate to
severe frontal collision.
The pretensioners are located in
each front safety belt retractor.
The system is activated based on
crash severity, regardless of safety
belt usage.
Pretensioners are not designed to
activate in rollovers, or in rear, side
or low-speed frontal crashes.
Upon activation of the system, you
may hear a noise and notice some
smoke. This is normal and is not
harmful.
Pretensioners work only once. If
the pretensioners are activated in a
collision, they will need to be
replaced.
See your dealer for service.
CAUTION
Service on or around the
pretensioner system
components or wiring must be
performed only by your
authorized dealer.
Improper service could result in
unintended pretensioner
system activation or could
render the system inoperative.
If the air bag light does not flash
when the ignition is turned on, or
if it stays on for more than ten
seconds or comes on while you are
driving, or flashes while you are
driving, there may be a problem
with the air bag system or the
pretensioner system.
Have the vehicle serviced right
away.
