What to do
3-2. Firmware update
The updating of firmware using USB memory is described within this section. For details on updating the firmware using
a PC-based "Firmware Update Tool", refer to the relevant description within the Instruction Manual.
3-2-1. Difference between firmware updates conducted using "Firmware Update Tool" and USB
memory
Firmware update data used in combination with the "Firmware Update Tool" or the USB memory are both assigned with
the common file extension 'bwf'. However, only firmware versions 'newer' than those applied to the printer may be used
when updating with the "Firmware Update Tool". On the other hand, firmware versions 'different' from the firmware
applied to the printer may be used when updating with USB memory-based firmware. Accordingly, this method allows
for both up- and down-grading the firmware.
3-2-2. Procedures for firmware updates conducted using an USB memory
(1)
Copy the firmware update data onto the root folder of the USB memory. Assign the file extension 'bwf' to the
firmware update data. No more than 10 files with the designated file extension may be placed in the root folder of
the USB memory. In case more than 11 firmware update data exist within the root folder, the excess files do not
show up on the LCD display of the printer.
(2)
Insert USB memory into the printer and select "Firmware Update" from the Advanced menu.
(3)
Select data to be used for the update and press OK button to update. Never power off the printer while firmware
update is in progress. If power is turned off during update, recover situation in accordance with the procedures
indicated in "3-2-3. Procedures for when update is interrupted".
(4)
Update is completed with the indication of the following completion message on the display.
(5)
Detach USB memory from the printer and turn ON.
