4.5.6 Technology Guarding
Technology Guarding is the license protection used for individual software components. The "Technology
Guard" (dongle) serves as the license container; this is connected to an available USB interface on the target
system.
The B&R software components Automation Runtime Embedded (ARemb), Automation Runtime Windows (ARwin)
and Automation Runtime Embedded Terminal require a license, and the use of the Technology Guard is mandatory.
Information:
Licensing using the Technology Guarding wizard is available starting with Automation Studio version
4.1 and Automation Runtime version 4.08. A Technology Guard is not necessary in earlier Automation
Runtime versions.
For additional information about Technology Guarding, see Automation Help.
