Removing Engine/
Transmission
Many service procedures can be performed without
removing the engine/transmission from the frame.
Closely observe the note introducing each sub-section for
this important information.
Support the vehicle on a suitable lift or jack stands allow-
ing room to perform work from the underside.
NOTE: Locate the jack stands to allow removing of
the center belly panel.
1. Remove the seat, seat back, and seat base; then dis-
connect negative battery cable.
2. Remove the center skid plate; then drain the oil and
coolant.
3. Remove the center floorboard and rear seat center
footrest (see Floor subsection in Steering/Body/Con-
trols).
4. Marking all nylon tie locations for installing pur-
poses, from the right side disconnect the MAP sensor
connector (A), fuel injector connector (B), ISC con-
nector (C), and TPS connector (D).

5. Wrap the gasline hose connector with a shop cloth;
then remove the gasline hose connector from the fuel
rail.

6. Loosen the clamp securing the air filter intake tube to
the air filter; then remove the mounting screw and
remove the intake tube.

7. Remove the cap screws securing the air filter to the
frame; then loosen the air inlet boot clamp and dis-
connect the IAT sensor connector and remove the air
filter assembly.

AT THIS POINT
If the technician’s objective is to service/replace right-
side cover oil seals, front output joint oil seal, rear out-
put joint oil seal, and/or the oil strainer (from beneath
the engine/transmission), the engine/transmission does
not have to be removed from the frame.
! WARNING
Make sure the vehicle is solidly supported on the sup-
port stands to avoid injury.
! WARNING
Gasoline may be under pressure. Place an absorbant
towel around the connector to absorb any gasoline
spray when disconnected.
