2.3.3 Protective grounding
Perform protective grounding in order to prevent fire and electric shock
when connecting the power cord.
•
For 3-pole power outlet
Insert it into the outlet as is. Protective grounding is completed in
this state.
•
For 2-pole power outlet
Insert the accompanying 3-pole-to- 2-pole conversion adapter to the 3-
pole plug then plug the 2-pole plug for the adapter into the 2-pole pow-
er outlet after converting to 2-poles.
Next, connect the tip of the green-colored grounding hanging from the
adapter to the earth potential. Connect the grounding terminal locat-
ed on the rear panel to the direct earth potential when grounding is
unavailable for the green-colored grounding wire that is hanging from
the adapter.

Protective grounding via grounding terminal
Ground the grounding terminal located on the rear panel of the main
unit when there is no 3-pole (2-pole grounding type) power outlet and
the green-color wired of the conversion adapter cannot be grounded.
WARNING
Accidents resulting in injury or death caused by electric
shock may occur if the power is switched on without pro-
tective grounding. Ground the tip of the green-colored
wire of the conversion adapter or the grounding terminal
on the rear panel before adding power to the MD8470A
when there is no 3-pole (2-pole grounding type) power
outlet.
