Appendix E – Board Replacement
Applicability
This appendix covers the removal and replacement procedure for input and output boards for the

be done while the system is powered up; see the “Caution” at the bottom of this page.

DGX DVI Boards
Procedure Overview
Important:
Adding or replacing boards should only be done by personnel trained to handle ESD
sensitive parts and assemblies.
ESD Warning:
To avoid ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) damage to sensitive components,
make sure you are properly grounded before touching any internal Epica DGX 144 materials.
Use an ESD wristband and cord with alligator clip attached to a good ground source.
Items Required
Epica DGX 144 board(s)
ESD wristband and cord with alligator clip
Updated configuration file (see “Configuration Requirements” below to determine if the file is
required)
PC with a terminal emulation program (e.g., HyperTerminal); an RS-232 null modem cable
Configuration Requirements
If a board is replaced with the same type of board, the configuration file does not need to be
updated.
If a board is added to a previously empty slot as part of an unplanned upgrade or if a board is
replacing a different type of board, a CD has been included with an updated configuration file,
which
must
be uploaded to the system (see page 101) for the new board to work.
C
aution:
The safety recommendations for laser products include applying power last. If instead of
powering down during the board replacement procedure, you decide to take advantage of the
DGX SC Fiber board’s ability to hot-swap, be sure that you follow the rest of the laser safety
recommendations on the next page and in the instructions when replacing a DGX SC Fiber board.
