of new subscription types. (APN – access point name)
Always active
The GPRS module is commonly used as a back-up connection for the primary LAN hard-wired connection.
In this case it is possible to choose that the GPRS module will enrol itself into the GPRS network but will
not send any data. By selecting the option „always active‟ the GPRS module is enrolled into the network and
is standby to send data. Whether this is always free of charge differs per provider. Some providers only
charge for data being sent. If this is the case it is advisable to select the option „always active‟. The GPRS
module is enrolled into the network and ready to send data immediately.
During a power up or after changing settings the AlphaCom XL will connect to the GPRS network to
establish a connection with the network and check all settings. The results will be displayed in the status
menu. When the name of the provider is displayed (for example NL KPN) this means that the GPRS
connection is established and GPRS is used by the AlphaCom XL. „Not in use‟ means the GPRS connection
was established during the last session but the connection is not in use by the AlphaCom XL.
