4.5 Cleaning activities
4.5.1 Cleaning the IRB 5720
General
To secure high uptime it is important that the IRB 5720 is cleaned regularly. The
frequency of cleaning depends on the environment in which the manipulator works.
Different cleaning methods are allowed depending on the type of protection of the
IRB 5720.
Note
Always verify the protection type of the robot before cleaning.
Oil spills
Oil spills from gearboxes
Use the following procedure if any oil spills are detected that can be suspected to
originate from a gearbox.

Inspect that the oil level in the suspected gearbox
is according to the recommendations.

Write down the oil level.

Inspect the oil level again after, for example, 6
months.

If the oil level is decreased, replace the gearbox.

Oil spills discolors painted surfaces
Oil spills on painted surfaces of the robot can result in discoloration.
Note
After all repair and maintenance work involving oil, always wipe the robot clean
from all surplus oil.
WARNING
Turn off all electrical power supplies to the robot before starting the cleaning.
Special cleaning considerations
This section specifies some special considerations when cleaning the robot.
•
Always use cleaning equipment as specified. Any other cleaning equipment
may shorten the life of the robot.
•
Always check that all protective covers are fitted to the robot before cleaning.
•
Do not point the water jet at connectors, joints, sealings or gaskets.
•
Do not use compressed air to clean the robot.
