LAN Emulation
in the
CoreBuilder 9000
ATM Enterprise
Switch
The CoreBuilder 9000 ATM Enterprise Switch supports the LAN Emulation
Services LES, BUS, and LECS. It utilizes Interim Local Management
Interface (ILMI) for initial address registration of the devices in the switch
and signaling for setup connections.
Default ELAN
Parameters
When the CoreBuilder 9000 ATM Enterprise Switch boots up, it
automatically sets all ELAN LES addresses to 13 bytes switch prefix, 6
bytes switch MAC address and a 1 byte selector that signifies the ELAN of
the LES (0-f). The BUS address within the CoreBuilder 9000 ATM
Enterprise Switch is identical to the LES address for the corresponding
ELAN.
Each ELAN is assigned an ELAN type and frame size that corresponds to
the type of LAN that the ELAN is emulating: 802.3 Ethernet type, Fast
Ethernet, 802.5 Token Ring, or Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI).
The default is 802.3 Ethernet type.
.
Updating ELAN Parameters
These ELAN parameters can be displayed and updated by management.
Parallel commands exists for this purpose in both the LECS command set
and in the LES command set. (For more information, see “Update ELAN
Parameters in LECS Database” on page 249 and see “Update ELAN
Parameters in LES Database” on page 281.)
When the LES of an ELAN and the LECS are in the same CoreBuilder
chassis, you can use either command to update the ELAN parameters and
they are updated in both the ELAN and the LECS.
