UNI Management
Entity (UME)
For each ATM device that participates in a UNI, a UNI Management Entity
(UME) supports the ILMI functions for that UNI. When two ATM devices
are connected across a (point-to-point) UNI, two UMEs are associated
with that UNI, one for each ATM device. They are called
adjacent
UMEs.
The ILMI communication takes place between adjacent UMEs. A UME can
access the MIB of an adjacent UME.
Basic ILMI Functions
This section discusses the following ILMI services provided by IME:
Access to Service Registry MIB
Status Information
The IME extracts the following status information from the ATM interface
MIB for display:
State of the physical link that connects to adjacent IMEs
ATM layer configuration information, including the size of VPI and VCI
address fields in the ATM cell header, the number of configured VPCs
and VCCs, and the maximum number of VPCs and VCCs that are
allowed
Parameters that are used for autodiscovery. For example, device type
and NNI signaling version.
