Table 8 shows the possible results of auto-discovery in this case.
Auto-discovery sets the IME type by comparing the system ID of the local
switch with that of the peer switch. The switch with the larger system ID
is set to user-side and the switch with the smaller system ID is set to
network-side. Table 9 shows the results of auto-discovery.
3Com Switch Peer Running ILMI 3.X
When the peer switch is a 3Com switch running an ILMI version lower
than 4.0, E-IISP is still the preferred protocol but now auto-discovery does
not operate and the UNI factory default is not automatically reset to
E-IISP. In this case, you need to use LMA to reset the interface type to
E-IISP in both switches. For more information on using the LMA to reset
the interface type, see “Update Port Interface Type” on page 123 in the
Management Guide. Table 10 shows how this is done.
