System Requirements
209
For proper functioning of switch redundancy in both base and enhanced
modes, both switch engines must be HD (5 Gbps) running the same
software version 4.50; Rev-C cannot be the redundant switch of an HD.

Hardware and Software Requirements for Migration to Enhanced
Switch Redundancy
In version 4.5, enhanced switch redundancy is supported:
By CoreBuilder
®
7000 HD switches only (5 Gbps).
If there is at least one interface card in the CoreBuilder 7000 chassis.
The CoreBuilder 7000HD chassis must include at least one of the
modules listed below. The reason for this is that communication
between the switch engines is carried out via one of these modules;
the 7X LAN/ATM modules (except 72XX) cannot support that amount
of traffic.
8/4-port modules — 3C37152, 3C37153, 3C37158, 3C37159,
3C37160
OC-12 carrier module — 3C37180
4-port modules — 3C37052, 3C37005
7200 modules — 3C37262, 3C37263, 3C37264, 3C37266
7900 modules — 3C37900 (contact your 3Com representative for
details)
If the two switching modules are of the same software version release
and type (base or extended).
Enhanced mode must be configured via LMA.
On all ATM node-to-node ports in the CoreBuilder chassis, ILMI 4.0
must be configured.
It is not possible to configure the CoreBuilder 7000 for enhanced
redundancy if there are only 74XX, 76XX or 7800 modules in the
chassis.
Once configured to enhanced redundancy, and if any of the above
modules are removed from the chassis, and only 74XX, 76XX and
7800 modules remain, there will be no communication between the
two switch engines. As soon as the card is returned to the chassis,
normal communication begins and enhanced switch redundancy
resumes.
