Switch Redundancy
Limitations
Hot removal of the active switching module from the chassis is not
permitted. Switch-over will not occur in such a case. The switch card
may be removed only when it is in redundant mode.
Interface card hot insertion/extraction is allowed only when both
switches are synchronized (seen in LMA).
SVC connections fail upon switch-over.
7437 does not support the PVC robustness feature.
FastBus does not support inter-switch communication.
Switch redundancy is possible only when at least one interface card is
populated in the box (except FastBus).
When the redundant switch is in suspended state, a software reboot
will reset all interface cards.
Up to Version 4.0
Features
Identifying the Active
Switching Module
When the CoreBuilder 7000 boots, the first of the two switching modules
to begin operating becomes the active switching module.
After the unit has booted, the active switching module can be identified
by the LMA command (1) SYS (4) SWM
or by the ACT LED as follows:
Active Switch: ACT LED flashes rapidly.
Redundant Switch: ACT LED flashes once every 2 seconds.
The redundancy feature works for any combination of the CoreBuilder
7000 and CoreBuilder 7000HD switch modules installed in the chassis.
Conditions for
Switch-over to
Redundant Module
Switch-over to the redundant module occurs in the following situations:
Removal of the active switching module from the chassis.
Malfunction of the active switching module.
Manual reboot of the CoreBuilder 7000 by LMA, Telnet (soft reboot)
or Transcend NMS.
