Basic ILMI Functions
This section discusses the following ILMI services provided by IME:
Status Information
UNI Address Registration
Access to Service Registry MIB
ILMI Connectivity Polling
Status Information
The IME extracts the following status information from the ATM interface
MIB for display:
State of the physical link connecting to adjacent IMEs
ATM layer configuration information, including the size of VPI and VCI
address fields in the ATM cell header, the number of configured VPCs
and VCCs, and the maximum number of VPCs and VCCs allowed
Parameters that are used for auto-discovery. For example, device type
and NNI signaling version.
UNI Address
Registration
The ILMI address registration provides the following services:
Initialization-time exchange of addressing information
Restrictions on network-prefix/user-part combinations
Acceptance of unassigned network prefixes
Rejection of unacceptable values, either rejection of a specific network
prefix by the user, or of a specific user part by the network
Dynamic addition/deletion of additional network prefixes and user
parts
De-registration of addresses when ILMI Connectivity is lost
An indication of support or non-support for address registration at an
interface
Registration of organizational scope
Exchange of Addressing Information
To establish an ATM connection at the UNI, both the user and the
network must know the ATM addresses of the ATM devices that
participate in that UNI. These ATM addresses can then be used in
signaling messages for establishing connections with a specific ATM end
system. The address registration procedure allows the dynamic exchange
