Fiber Optic Repeaters
To join two network segments together, each segment connects to a fiber optic MAU
and a single port fiber optic repeater. Refer to the "
Fiber Optic Connection
" figure
following. Each repeater then uses fiber optic cable to interface the two segments. This
allows for a greater distance between segments, as well as providing immunity to
crosstalk, noise, and power surging.
If you wish to connect a single node to a segment using fiber optic cable, then use a
similar configuration except don't use a repeater at the node end of the cable. A fiber
optic MAU transceiver is still required, however.
