2. Getting Started

When D6 is set to logical 1, external memory is accessed as word wide and 16 Kbytes
are available. When D7 is set to logical 1, this bit must also be set to logical 1.

8/16 (D7) - Set this bit to logical 1 to allow 16-bit system accesses to external memory.
Set to logical 0 to allow only 8-bit accesses. Generation of M16 output is allowed when
D7 is set to logical 1.

Configuring Multiple Boards

To configure multiple ZT 8995s for use in a single system, you must give each board a
unique I/O address as described in "

Using The Setup Program

". Insert each board into

your system and configure it before inserting the next board. This must be done
because each board is shipped with the same software disabled mode that monitors
access to port 278h. A conflict will occur if more than one board is installed at the same
time. To install multiple boards, use the following procedure:

1. Turn off the system.

2. Install one board and turn on the system.

3. Using the INFOSET program, configure the board you just installed.

4. Select any

available I/O base address.

5. Select and alter other configuration options as necessary.

6. Save the configuration, then exit the setup program.

Repeat this procedure until all boards in your system are configured. When the ZT 8995
is installed and configured, you are ready to test the board and cable, install the
software drivers, and load the network software. Each of these topics is discussed in the
following topics.

Testing a Board

Once the ZT 8995 is installed, use the diagnostic programs AUTOSET8 or INSPECT
contained on the floppy disk to check the board installation. Both DOC (Word for
Windows) and TXT files provide instructions for using the program. To execute the
diagnostic program, change to the \SETUP subdirectory and type the name of the
executable program you prefer.

Some of the diagnostic program tests do not operate properly unless the board is
attached to the media for which the board is configured (Ethernet Attachment Unit
Interface (AUI) or a Thin Ethernet BNC "T" connector that has two terminators
connected, or a Twisted Pair cable). Refer to Appendices B and C for information on
connecting boards together.
