– Perform a reference measurement; use a master stylus.
– Select the stylus to be qualified.
NOTE
Usually, the qualification process is carried out semi-automatically.
Please refer to the operating instructions for the measuring software.
Preparation
What is required for qualification?
The following is required for qualification:
– Reference sphere
Usually, a high-precision ceramic sphere is used.
– Master stylus
The master stylus must be used for the reference measurement.
– Styli required for workpiece measurement.
Red dot The master stylus has different features with regard to length and diam-
eter of the stylus tip. The features depend on the probe used. Normally,
the master stylus is marked with a red dot.

Requirements for proper qualification
Before starting qualification, make sure that the following prerequisites
are met:
– The stylus is stable.
– All stylus system components are screwed together tightly.
– The limit values for assembly of the stylus system have been ob-
served.
– Reference sphere, stylus tips, and adapter plate are clean and not
damaged.
