By configuring the Samba server, you will be able to access the “public folder*” on the
VB8300 from a Windows network client (PC running a Windows OS).

You can use a PC on the network to access the “public folder*” on the VB8300 via the
FTP protocol.

A password is not required.

The public folder corresponds to the top directory of the VB8300 internal hard disk. It does not
appear on the file operation screens on the VB8300.
Explanation
The VB8300 can be connected to a network and run as a file server.
Samba Server
Samba is a server application that provides file services and print services. By installing
Samba on a machine running UNIX or Linux OS, the data on the machine becomes
accessible from a Windows network client. You can carry out the operations below on
the “public folder” on the VB8300 internal hard disk. However, if the USB memory or CF
card is not detected, “usbmem/” and “compact/” do not appear in the “public folder.” For
a description of the detection of USB memory and CF card, see section 10.1.

• Netbios Name
The name specified here can be used to search the VB8300 when accessing the files
on the VB8300 from a PC on the network.
Number of characters: Up to 15 characters.
Characters that can be used: 0 to 9, A to Z, a to z, _, -, (, ), and .
• Group Name
The group name. Set the same group name as the PC that is accessing the VB8300.
Number of characters: Up to 40 characters.
Characters that can be used: 0 to 9, A to Z, a to z, _, -, (, ), and .
