Damper Setting

Setting of damper (19,

 Fig. 1

) is necessary only after a valve spindle or valve seat has

been replaced, and after one of the valve seating faces has been ground. Setting is to be

carried out, after assembling of the exhaust valve as shown in Fig. 6.
1) Check bores (BO, Fig. 1) in the damper for free passage.
2) Remove damper (19).
3) Determine with a depth gauge measure H from the edge of valve drive housing (2,

Fig. 6) to the bottom of the damper bore in piston (8); for this the exhaust valve must

be closed (check with feeler gauge whether the valve plate lies against the valve

seat without clearance).

Note: The total thickness h of shim ring(s) (21) assigned to measure H is shown in

the following table:
