Note: Steps 3 ) to 5 ) are only necessary if
there is not sufficient space to
remove the piston.
3) Attach the clamp (94345G, Fig. 3 ) to the
piston rod (1) in the position shown i.e.
500 mm from the bottom of the piston
rod foot (2). Make sure that the partition
of the clamp halves is 90
_
offset to the
two bores (6) in the piston rod foot.
4) Apply oil to the threads of the four
screws (7).
5) Torque the four screws (7) to 55 Nm.
6) Operate the turning gear to move the
applicable crank to TDC. The clamp
(94345G) will move the gland box out of
the cylinder block.
7) Use the M16 tap (94348) to clean the
threaded holes (5) in the piston
crown (4).
8) Attach the device (94341) to the piston
crown with the four bolts (3).
9) Torque the four bolts (3) to 80 Nm.
10) Attach the engine room crane to the
device (94341).
11) Operate the engine room crane to lift the
piston sufficiently to get access to the
crosshead pin and top end bearing.
12) Apply protection to the crosshead pin
and top end bearing to prevent
contamination.
13) Make sure that the two parts of the
device (94350) are open.
14) Operate the engine room crane to fully
remove the piston and gland box from
the cylinder liner.
15) Lower the piston and gland box into the
support (94350) as shown.
16) Attach the two parts of the device
(94350) together with the screws (8).
17) To prevent contamination, attach the
cover (94345D) over the gland bore in
the cylinder block with the four
screws (9).
18) To disassemble the piston, refer to
3403 − 3 .
19) Do a check of the top surface of the
piston, refer to 3403 − 4 .
20) Do a check of the piston rings, refer to
3425 − 1 .
21) Refer to the Maintenance Schedule for
other work on each piston 0380 − 1 .
