Sewing a straight line using straight stitch on fabric edges

Practical tips

Fold the edge of the fabric over.

Iron and tack the fabric edge.

Sew along the edge of the fabric (for example, the edge of a pillowcase)
close to the edge in

straight stitch

Needle position for 2nd technique

Topstitching seams / Sewing jeans seams

W6 tip

Thick threads should never be sewn using an optional automatic thread tension.

Visually thicker seams, so-called jeans seams, are sewn as follows:

Use the second external spool pin and put it on the winder spindle.

➔

Thread two upper threads, as described in Section 11.13 Sewing with the
twin needle.

➔

Thread the two upper threads without using the automatic needle threader
into a W6 Jeans needle.

➔

Do not use the automatic needle threader, as it may be damaged by
two upper threads.

➔

Set the straight stitch to 4.5–5.

A visually thicker jeans / topstitching seam has been sewn.
