Quilting

Quilting or topstitching refers to the linking of two or more layers of fabric when
sewing. The seams on the outer layer of the piece create specific patterns. The
term “quilt” is derived from the verb “to quilt” and describes a stitched decorative
blanket, used as a cover on furniture or as wall decoration. Whereas previously a
great deal of hand sewing was required to create a quilt, sewing machines can
now be used for this task - provided they offer quilting stitches.
