Chapter 3 - Operation
3.2.2 Remote Control
The digital controller can be controlled by an external computer over a serial
(RS-232 or RS-422) or parallel (IEEE-488) interface. Refer to Appendix A for
remote control commands.
Begin remote control by selecting the remote control mode from the front
panel (indoor unit). The operator can also end remote control. The remote
computer cannot initiate o
r
terminate remote mode. The remote computer can
receive status information at any time, but cannot change pedestal status
unless remote mode is active. Remote mode has the lowest priority of the
three modes of operation.
3.2.3 Front-panel Control
In this mode, the digital controller is operated with optional front-panel
controls and indicators. Commands or a remote computer are ignored in this
operating mode. If a local computer is connected, front-panel commands are
ignored. Front-panel operation has a higher priority than a remote computer,
but a lower priority than a local computer.
3.3 Front-panel controls and indicators
Figure 3.1 illustrates the front panel. Controls and indicators are divided into
eight functional groups:
•
Liquid Crystal Display - The LCD displays information such as labels for
the multi-function softkeys, axis position and commanded angles, and
axis operational modes.
•
Multifunction Softkeys - These ten keys (five on each side of the LCD) are
assigned functions through software control, allowing many choices from
only ten keys.
•
Interlock Indicators - These LEDs indicate an axis interlock is engaged.
These safety interlocks prevent operation of drive motors when a manual
hand drive is engaged, brakes are manually released, or the pedestal
DISABLE switch is not in the RUN position. The LED over the left row of
softkeys is assigned to the same axis as the left softkeys, and the right
LED is assigned to the same axis as the right softkeys.
•
Position Handwheels - These handwheels can enter an axis position angle
command when in Position mode. Turning the wheels left or right
decreases or increases the angle. The commanded angle is shown on the
LCD, and changes as the handwheel is turned. The left handwheel is
assigned to the same axis as the left softkeys, and the right handwheel is
assigned to the same axis as the right softkeys.
