8.11 Coolant
We strongly recommend to always
use UD coolant. This prevents the
engine coolant from freezing as it
h a s a l o w b o i l i n g p o i n t . I t a l s o
prevents corrosion and formation of
s c a l e i n t h e c o o l i n g s y s t e m . F o r
replacement or cleaning, ask the
n e a r e s t U D Tr u c k s a u t h o r i s e d
dealer.
Water leakage from the cooling
units
C h e c k t h e c o o l i n g u n i t s s u c h a s
radiator, expansion tank and radiator
hoses for leakage. Check the ground
beneath the parked vehicle for signs
of leakage. Leakage can be initiated
b y t h e p r e s s u r e a p p l i e d t o t h e
cooling system (due to operation of
the water pump or the increase of
coolant temperature). Therefore,
check for leakage daily, while the
engine is running.
Coolant replacement

CAUTION
Using non UD coolant can result
i n s e v e r e c o n s e q u e n t i a l
d a m a g e s t h a t w i l l n o t b e
covered by warranty.
CAUTION
Continuous use of a vehicle with
insufficient coolant will damage
the engine. If the coolant needs
topping up frequently, get it
checked at the nearest
UD Trucks authorised dealer.
WARNING
• C a r e l e s s o p e n i n g o f t h e
expansion tank pressure cap
can cause steam or hot water
to spray out, with the risk of
personal injury. Follow the
handling instructions below.
• I f t h e c o o l a n t t e m p e r a t u r e
gauge indicator is close to the
r e d z o n e , k e e p t h e e n g i n e
idling and do not touch the cap
until the indicator falls to the
suitable level.
• M a k e s u r e t h e e n g i n e i s
c o m p l e t e l y c o o l . I t i s
dangerous to open the cap
while the coolant is hot. The
pressurized coolant may push
steam/hot water out. When the
coolant temperature is low,
hold the cap with a rag and
open it gently.
