7.CORRECT DRIVING OPERATION

7.2 Operation precautions
Handling a new vehicle
•
The service life and performance
of a truck depend largely on how it
is handled during the initial break-
in period. To extend the service
life and to assure top performance
of the vehicle, observe the follow-
ing recommendations.
Start-off precautions
•
Avoid sudden starting or stopping.
Sudden starting not only causes
the clutch to wear out fast but also
causes premature and abnormal
wear out of tyre and brake linings.
•
Avoid half clutching as much as
possible. Half clutching is one of
the major causes of clutch dam-
age. In addition, driving with rest-
ing the foot on the clutch pedal
could easily create a half clutch-
ing situation, so ensure not to
place the foot on the clutch pedal
while driving.
Precautions while driving
It is normal for the warning lights to
be off while driving. If a warning light

s o u n d s , i t m e a n s t h a t t h e r e i s a
problem. Stop the vehicle in a safe
p l a c e a n d t a k e t h e r e q u i r e d
measures.
•
Decelerate
before
entering
curves. Braking while turning the
steering wheel will cause the
wheels to lock up and the tyres to
slip. This will not only result in
wear out of tyres, but could cause
them to lose their grip on slippery
roads (wet, icy, or snowy roads). It
is advised to avoid doing this as
much as possible.
•
Ensure care to maintain
enough space with the next
v e h i c l e w h e n t u r n i n g a t a n
intersection. The rear tyres will
turn at a smaller radius than the
f r o n t t y r e s a n d c o u l d h i t t h e
nearby vehicle or pedestrians.
Ensure care while turning the
vehicle by using the outside rear
view mirrors, in case of poor visi-
bility look through the window to
make sure that the sides of the
vehicle are safe. The out side rear
view mirrors should be positioned
p r o p e r l y t o v i e w b l i n d s p o t s
around the vehicle making it easy
and safe when turning.
WARNING
Driving with the engine off is
dangerous and ensure that it is
not done. Compressed air will
not be supplied to the brakes
when the engine is off, which
will cause the brakes not to
w o r k . T h e s t e e r i n g a s s i s t
mechanism also will not work.
So it will be difficult to steer the
vehicle.
