7. Cleaning
A. General
(1) To clean the searchlight, wash with a mild solution designed for aviation or automotive finishes.
(2) Remove any fuel spills and/or debris collected from flight.
B. Cleaning of the Optical Components
(1) Dust, fingerprints and other debris on the optical surfaces may cause localized heating in a lens
causing it to crack. Under normal conditions, the A800 optics assembly will need little routine
maintenance but environmental conditions may cause this to change.
(2) Prior to removing the A800 lens and optics module for cleaning, carry out the following procedure.
CAUTION:
DO NOT TURN THE LIGHT BEAM ON DURING THIS OPERATION.
(a) Turn the Master Power switch to ON and allow the system to complete the POST
(b) Press the DEPLOY switch to allow grip hand controller function.
(c) Operate the ZOOM switch between wide and narrow to move the lens to a point
approximately midway from the two extremes (Figure 82).
NOTE: This operation will position the lens to make cleaning easier.
i.
Turn the Master Power switch OFF.
ii. Remove the lamp assembly in accordance with Chapter 5, G.

(3) The following procedure should be carried out in a workshop environment.
(a) Remove the outer and inner cases in accordance with Chapter 5, I, (1)
(b) Remove loose material by blowing across the lenses with clean, low pressure compressed
air.
CAUTION:
ANY HARD MATERIAL REMAINING ON THE LENS MAY SCRATCH THE
SURFACES.
(c) Clean the lens with an aviation approved wet/dry wipe such as Visial Antistatic wipes.
(d) Shine a flashlight on the lenses to ensure they are clean and streak-free.
(e) Inspect the lenses for deep scratches or other signs of damage.
NOTE: If any damage is observed, contact the Trakka Service Department for
instructions regarding replacement.
