5. Maintenance and Repair Procedures.
A. Removal of Searchlight/Preparing for Maintenance
CAUTION:
REMOVAL OF THE SEARCHLIGHT FROM THE AIRCRAFT SHOULD BE CARRIED
OUT BY TWO PEOPLE TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE SEARCHLIGHT OR THE
AIRCRAFT. REFER TO Figure 23 FOR SAFE SEARCHLIGHT LIFTING AREAS.
(1) Maintenance and repair of the searchlight can normally be carried out with the gimbal assembly
(032051) on the aircraft.
NOTE: This is dependent on the installation position on the aircraft.
(2) In most cases maintenance and repair will only require removal of the lamp assembly (032054)
and this may be carried into the workshop.
(3) When removal of the lamp housing assembly (035004) becomes necessary the entire searchlight
should be removed from the aircraft and set up in the workshop.
NOTE: This is necessary to carry out an operational check and, if required, refocus the
light beam.
(4) A portable, collapsible mounting frame (Hangman, Figure 45) is available from Trakka Corp. (refer
to Chapter 10).
(5) Ensure that the frame is properly fitted with a dovetail mounting block and has sufficient
surrounding space for a full range of movement by the searchlight.
