3. Inspection Items
1) Disassembly of Starter Motor
1. Push down pinion stopper

, remove pinion stopper clip

, and then, remove pinion return spring and pinion.
2. Remove bolt and screw, and disassemble starter motor.

2) Inspection of Armature
1. Check armature commutator

for deposit of carbon and
other dirt. Clean by using sand paper #600 if necessary.
2. Measure commutator

groove depth

Replace starter motor if the depth is less than specified
value.
3. Check conductivity between commutator

and shaft.
Replace starter motor if conductive.
4. Measure commutator

outer diameter

Replace starter motor ass'y if the diameter is less than
specified value.
