Follow these steps
1. Determine the backpressure in the system configuration with mass
spectrometer/second detector but without installed LightPipe flow
cell. See
section 5.7.1 , page 74 .
2. Determine the backpressure of the LightPipe flow cell. See
section 5.7.2, page 76 .
5.7.1 Determining the Backpressure without LightPipe flow cell
NOTICE Do not install switching valves or fraction collectors downstream
of the flow cell, as operating those under flow will result in pressure
spikes that can destroy the flow cell.
1. Turn on the system (refer to the
Vanquish System Operating
Manual
).
2. Turn on the module(s) in the flow path after the LightPipe flow cell,
such as second detector or mass spectrometer. Refer to the
Operating Manuals
for these modules.
3. Turn on the detector (see section 5.8 Turning On the Detector,
page 78 ).
4. Set up the flow connections:
a) Disconnect the inlet capillary from the flow cell IN port.
b) Disconnect the waste line from the flow cell OUT port.
c) Connect the free end of the inlet capillary to the Viper union.
d) Connect the free end of the waste line to the other side of the
Viper union.
5. Start the pump flow at the maximum flow rate of your application.
6. Check all flow connections for leakages:
♦ If a leakage has occurred
: See section 8.4 Resolving Leakage,
page 172 .

If no leakage was found and the pressure value has stabilized
(approximately after 30 seconds): Proceed with the next step.
