MODES OF USE
This anchor device can be used in two different configurations:
It is the responsibility of the user to have sufficient understanding of the structure
being climbed to ensure that suitable anchor points are selected for fall protection.
The user is responsible for selecting the appropriate configuration of hipSTAR FLEX
for the anchor point selected.
1. Single strand –
using the thimble
2. Double strand –
using the pulley
Ad 1. SINGLE STRAND –
connection to equalizing thimble
In this configuration according to EN 795B the hipSTAR FLEX is lead around a
structual anchor and the Ultra D Locksafe Carabiner is attached to the thimble of
the OD Loop. The Ultra O Locksafe Carabiner must be attached to the ventral at-
tachment point of the harness according to EN 813.
Note.
The hipSTAR FLEX does not choke the structural anchor. Therefore the user
must ensure that the hipSTAR FLEX cannot slip downwards but remains in its place.
Making a ‘round turn’ with the rope around the anchor is suggested when the stem
is relatively featureless. It is important that the carabiner is not in contact with
the structure, as this may compromise its’ locking mechanism and/or configured
strength. (See picture 1, page 6)
Ad 2. DOUBLE STRAND –
connection to becket of pulley
In this configuration according to EN 795B the hipSTAR FLEX is lead around a
structual anchor and the Ultra D Locksafe carabiner is attached to the becket of the
pulley. The Ultra O Locksafe Carabiner must be attached to the ventral attachment
point of the harness according to EN 813. The OD Loop and thimble are not used.
Note.
The hipSTAR FLEX does not choke the structural anchor. Therefore the user
must ensure that the hipSTAR FLEX cannot slip downwards but remains in its place.
Ensure that the locking mechanism of the Ultra D Locksafe carabiner faces away
from the running rope and friction hitch. (See picture 2, page 7)
USE ACCORDING TO EN 358
Note.
The OD Loop with thimble is not in use when choosing a configuration
according to EN 358.
1. This adjustable lanyard was tested according to the EN 358 standard and must
therefore only be used in a work positioning system and not in a fall arrest system.
2. If a fall cannot be ruled out, make sure to use fall arrest equipment.
3. The anchor point must always be located at waist height.
