HP Heavy-Duty Industrial Tilting Spindle Shaper
Spindle Replacement
To replace the spindle, do these steps:
1. DISCONNECT THE SHAPER FROM POWER!
2. Remove the fence assembly and fence mount.
3. Raise the spindle all the way up, and bring the tilt to
0°.
4.
Engage the spindle lock to prevent the spindle from
turning.
5. Remove the locking fasteners, spacers, and cutters
from the spindle, and remove all table inserts (see
Figure 55 ).
6. Use the shaft nut wrench to loosen the shaft nut
(see
Figure 56
) approximately one turn, then
remove the wrench.
7. Hold the spindle and shaft nut together, and
unscrew them from the spindle shaft.
8.
Taking care not to damage the precision threads,
remove the shaft nut from the spindle (see Figure
57
).
9.
With the same care, screw the shaft nut onto the
new spindle and hand-tighten it.
Note: Make sure the shaft nut is only hand-tight-
ened onto the spindle to ensure that the spindle
taper will fully seat into the spindle shaft in the
following steps.
10.
Keep the spindle and shaft nut together as you
thread them back onto the spindle shaft.
11. Once the spindle is snug, further hand tighten the
shaft nut clockwise until it is just slightly snug on
the spindle shaft.
12. Use the shaft nut wrench to final tighten the shaft
nut another

turn clockwise to finish securing the
spindle into the spindle shaft.
