HP Heavy-Duty Industrial Tilting Spindle Shaper
Spindle Lock
The spindle lock prevents the spindle from rotating.
Engaging this lock is necessary when installing cutters.
However, the spindle lock must be disengaged before
starting the shaper.
To lock the spindle in place, do these steps:
1.
DISCONNECT THE SHAPER FROM POWER!
2.
Pull out and twist the spindle lock so that the T-
handle is horizontal (see Figure 15 ).
3. Rotate the spindle by hand until you hear or feel a
click, and the spindle will not rotate further.
NOTICE
DO NOT turn the shaper
ON
while the
spindle is locked. Otherwise, the motor,
V-belt, and spindle could be damaged.
Cutter Elevation
Cutter elevation can be micro-adjusted with the spindle
elevation handwheel. One revolution of the handwheel
moves the cutter approximately

To gauge the cutter height in relation to the table, use
a machinist's rule with fine graduations. An alternative
method would be to place a sample of the shaped cut
next to the cutter.
To change the cutter elevation, do these steps:
1.
DISCONNECT THE SHAPER FROM POWER!
2.
Loosen the lock knob on the spindle elevation
handwheel, and rotate the handwheel to bring the
cutter to the desired elevation.
Note:
Clockwise rotation raises the cutter; counter-
clockwise rotation lowers the cutter.
3. Tighten the lock knob to secure the setting.

Always securely tighten the spindle

the shaper
ON
. Otherwise, the cutter
could unexpectedly change elevation
causing workpiece kickback or cut-
through. This action could result in
serious personal injury.
