Cutters are sharp tools! To avoid dam-
age to your hands, put on heavy leath-
er gloves when handling cutters.

The spindle for the Model W1807 is 7" long, 1

" in
diameter, and includes seven spacers ranging from 15 to
35mm.
To install a cutter onto the spindle, do these steps:
1.
DISCONNECT THE SHAPER FROM POWER!
2.
Position the fence mount, fence boards, and top
safety hood away from the spindle to provide easy
access to the spindle.
3.
Bring the spindle tilt to 0°, and raise it all the way
up.
4.
Prevent the spindle from rotating by engaging the
spindle rotation lock.
5.
Configure the table inserts to provide the smallest
space around the cutter without interfering with the
cutter rotation.
6.
Remove the jam hex bolt and washer, spindle nut,
and spacers from the spindle (see
Figure 26
).
Note:
When performing the next step, make sure you
take these precautions:
—
To avoid binding, keep the spindle and cutter free
of debris, grease, and oils.
— To prevent damage to the cutter, spindle, or your-
self, DO NOT force the cutter or spindle parts onto
the spindle. If necessary, use fine emery cloth on
the inside diameter of the part.
— Position the cutter as low as possible on the spin-
dle to reduce spindle bearing tension and wear.
— Configure your shaping operation so that the cut-
ter mills the workpiece from the bottom and away
from the operator.
7.
Place the cutter and spacers onto the spindle so that
the last spacer is slightly above the bottom spindle
thread (see
Figure 27
).

8.
Secure the cutter and spacers with
the spindle nut, and jam hex bolt and
washer.
Note:
It is not necessary to over-
tighten the spindle nut and jam hex
bolt—doing so could cause damage to
the spindle and make it difficult to
remove the cutter.
