HP Heavy-Duty Industrial Tilting Spindle Shaper
Lubrication
Since all bearings are sealed and permanently lubricated,
simply leave them alone until they need to be replaced.
Do not lubricate them.
This machine does need lubrication in the following
areas:
• Spindle elevation worm gear and way.
• Spindle tilt sliding connector rod.
• Spindle tilt worm gear.
• Quill and gear box.
To lubricate the spindle elevation worm gear and way,
do these steps:
1. DISCONNECT THE SHAPER FROM POWER!
2. Lower the spindle all the way down.
3. Open the front motor access door and identify the
spindle elevation worm gear and way, as shown in
Figure 44 .
4. Use mineral spirits and a clean rag to clean the
worm gear and way.
5.
Brush on a thin coat of white lithium grease on the
entire length of the worm gear and way.
6. Close the motor access door, and raise the spindle to
the top and back down to the bottom—this will dis-
tribute the lubricant evenly.
To lubricate the spindle tilt sliding connector rod, do
these steps:
1.
DISCONNECT THE SHAPER FROM POWER!
2.
Tilt the spindle to +45°, open the front motor access
door, and identify the spindle tilt connecting rod, as
shown in
Figure 45
.
3.
Use mineral spirits and a clean rag to clean the con-
necting rod.
4. Brush on a thin coat of white lithium grease on the
entire length of the connecting rod.

The motor, V-belt, and pulleys rep-
resent danger to the operator dur-
ing operation. The front motor access
door MUST be closed and secured
before turning the shaper ON . Ignoring
this warning could lead to serious per-
sonal injury.

Close the motor access door, and tilt
the spindle back and forth through the
entire range—this will distribute the
lubricant evenly.
