Careful tuning leads to optimal performance
Within this section we will present three separate scanner tunings. All three scanner
tunings use exactly the same Servo gain setting, and achieve critical damping (no
overshoot). Two of the three tunings achieve the same step time (approximately 350
microseconds). However, one of the tunings is more optimal – achieving 40% faster
step-times. The difference between the scanner tunings is how the Damping setting is
used.
PD tuning
The screen shot below shows an example of PD tuning. Here we can see that the step
time is approximately 350 microseconds (as highlighted by the blue arrow). This is
exactly the same screen shot used in 10.4 above.
There’s certainly nothing wrong with this tuning, although this particular scanner can
achieve much higher performance if desired.
