80 Channel Mode
General descrition
Usually RockNet300 audio networks are able to carry 160 input channels over a single CA T.5 cable in
a redundant ring network. In order to do so, all four twisted pairs in the CA T.5 cable are used.
RockNet also provides a so called 80 channel mode where only 80 input c hannels are available.
These are Quad numbers 1 (one) to 20 (twenty) which equals channels 1 (one) to 80 (eighty).
The 80 channel mode can be used to save cable c apacity and use the free two twisted pairs to trans-
port other information over the same CA T.5 cable. A particular adapt er is available from Connex
GmbH in Oldenburg in Germany to s plit the CA T.5 cable or better to say to get access to the two free
twisted pairs of the cable. Different versions of this adapter are available which provide three pin XLR
or five pin XLR access – both available in male and female.
Example of the Connex split adapter from CAT.5 to 3 pin XLR male.
The 80 channel mode can only be set at the Primary Sync Master or the active Sync Master (might be
a Secondary Sync Master). In case the Sync Master is in 80 channel mode the entire network is set to
80 channel mode.
In case the Sync Master is an RN.341.MY card the 80 channel mode can be set via the Edit Preset
Window of RockWorks by clicking the check box 80-Ch of the respective RN.341.MY interfac e card.
The Edit Preset Window of the RN.341.MY interface cards in RockWorks does not give an active
status of the network configuration. E ven if the 80 channel mode is active it is not displayed in the Edit
Reset Window.
If fiber converter RN.351.FI and RN.352.FO are part of t he RockNet 300 audio network only one single
fiber is necessary to obtain a redundant ring network in 80 channel mode. In t his case output A of t he
RN.351.FI needs to be connected to input B of the RN.352.FO of the fiber line.
