Horizontal machine alignment - measurement
Procedure:
Note: the machine(s) to be checked are assumed to have four feet in
an approximately square formation. If your machine has six feet then
it should be measured in two parts, first the front four feet, then the
rear.
You can also measure soft foot on the left machine (the one with the
laser mounted on its shaft) by selecting it as "4-feet" instead of
"Stationary."
Proceed as follows:
1) With the laser and receiver mounted on the shaft in the normal
way, select the Soft Foot softkey.
2) If the machine dimensions have not yet been entered, the
program will issue the warning "Missing dimensions":
a) Press OK and the Dimensions screen appears (page 4-16).
b) Press OPTION to check the machine types. You must select
"4-feet" machine types for the machine(s) to be checked.
c) When finished with machine setup, press M

again and
reselect SOFT FOOT.
For maximum accuracy during soft foot measurement (and espe-
cially when coupling play is present), the shafts should be rotated
so that the sensors are oriented vertically (12:00 - 6:00 direction).
The Average function, set in the XY View screen, is automatically
used during soft foot calculations. With this option, you can set the
number of measurements (up to 2048) to be taken and averaged at
each foot (see page 4-44).
