Hints on installation


Place di r ectly on to p of an am p lifie r , o r othe r
com p onent in you r ste r eo system that becomes
hot in use.

Use nea r a television o r monito r as you may
ex p e r ience inte r fe r ence — es p ecially if the
television uses an indoo r antenna.

Use in a kitchen o r othe r r oom whe r e the system
may be ex p osed to smoke o r steam.

Use on a thick r ug o r ca rp et, o r cove r with cloth
— this may pr event pr o p e r cooling of the system
unit.

Place on an unstable su r face, o r one that is not
la r ge enough to su pp o r t all fou r of the system
unit’s feet.
Cleaning the pickup lens
The DVD p laye r ’s lens should not become di r ty
in no r mal use, but if fo r some r eason it should
malfunction due to dust o r di r t, consult you r
nea r est Pionee r autho r ized se r vice cente r .
Although lens cleane r s a r e comme r cially
available, we do not r ecommend using them
since some may damage the lens.
Problems with condensation
Condensation may fo r m inside the p laye r if it is
b r ought into a wa r m r oom f r om outside, o r if
the tem p e r atu r e of the r oom r ises quickly.
Although the condensation won’t damage the
p laye r , it may tem p o r a r ily im p ai r p e r fo r mance.
Leave it to adjust to the wa r me r tem p e r atu r e
fo r about an hou r befo r e switching on.
Moving the system unit
If you need to move the main unit, fi r st r emove
a disc if the r e’s one in the p laye r , then pr ess

STANDBY/ON on the f r ont p anel to tu r n the
system off. Wait fo r --Off-- to disa pp ea r f r om
the dis p lay, then un p lug the p owe r co r d.

Screen sizes and disc formats
DVD-Video discs come in diffe r ent sc r een
as p ects, r anging f r om TV pr og r ams, which a r e
gene r ally 4:3, to CinemaSco p e widesc r een
movies

, with an as p ect r atio of u p to about 7:3.
Televisions also come in diffe r ent as p ect
r atios; ‘standa r d’ 4:3 and widesc r een 16:9.

Widescreen TV users
If you have a widesc r een TV, the
TV Screen
setting ( p age 53) of this p laye r should be set to
16:9 (Wide) o r 16:9 (Compressed) .
When you watch discs r eco r ded in 4:3 fo r mat
with the 16:9 (Wide) setting, you can use the
TV cont r ols to select how the p ictu r e is
pr esented. You r TV may offe r va r ious zoom and
st r etch o p tions; see the inst r uctions that came
with you r TV fo r details.

1 Un p lugging the unit befo r e --Off-- disa pp ea r s f r om the dis p lay may cause the system to r etu r n to the facto r y settings.
2 Many widesc r een discs ove rr ide the system’s settings so that the disc is shown in lette r box fo r mat r ega r dless of the setting.
