Configuring the SFPs and ports
Before you can configure the SFPs and the ports, you must determine the following:
•
The type of installed SFPs and the installation port identifier (P1/P2, P3/P4, P5/P6, P7/P8). See Figure
1 on page 2.
•
The port functions to implement for port groups P1P2, P3P4, P5P6, P7P8:
•
Absent (Abs)
•
Regenerator (Reg)
•
Transponder (Transpond)
•
The port transmit mode for Tx ports P1, P3, P5, P7:
•
2R (regenerate and reshape)
•
3R (regenerate, reshape, and retime)
Note:
If the card is installed in a shelf that also houses a management card, the display on the
RGN-3GSF card cannot be used to configure the SFPs and ports; it can only be used to view the
configuration settings. To configure SFP and port settings in a managed system, see “Configuring the
RGN-3GSF SFPs” on page 23.

Abs-Abs: SFP3 and SFP4 are disabled (absent).
Abs-Reg: SFP3 is disabled (absent) and SFP4 is available
as a regenerator.
Reg-Abs: SFP3 is available as a regenerator and SFP4 is
disabled (absent).
Reg-Reg: SFP3 and SFP4 are available as a regenerator.
Transpond: SFP3 and SFP4 are paired to operate as a
4-port bidirectional signal regenerator.
