Using serial port diagnostic tools

 To invoke the Service Control command from 

Windows

Click Start

➝

  Command Prompt. 

Result: 

The Command Prompt window appears.

At the Command prompt, type 

sc stop “service_name”

, and then 

press Enter. 

Note: 

The quotation marks are required, as in the example above.

Result: 

The system runs the Service Control command utility.

Exit

, and then press Enter to exit the Command Prompt 

window.

ATTENTION

You must restart the services that you shut down 
through the Service Control command after you run the 
diagnostic. For details, see “Restarting services” on 
page 61.
