Insert a blank slip into the slip station from the left side so that it covers the MICR read
head, but does not come into contact with the feed rolls.

See the illustration on the facing page.

The slip should be the same thickness as a normal check, with no magnetic ink
characters printed on it. Keep the slip from moving during the procedure. Keep the
slip out of the feed rolls.

Press the paper feed button on the PC board to take a noise sample.

The green LED goes off then comes back on, the paper feed motor runs briefly, and the
MICR read head raises and drops.

Either “OK” is printed on the receipt (indicating the MICR check reader does not need
to be adjusted), or characters are printed on the receipt. The number of characters is
proportional to the unwanted noise.

If “OK” is printed on the receipt, go to number 7 in the next section, “Adjust the MICR
Check Reader.”

10.

 

If characters are printed on the receipt, perform all the steps in the next section,
“Adjust the MICR Check Reader.”
