EN standard: Conformity to EC Directives/CE marking
EC Directives are issued by the EC Council to standardize the regulations of the EU countries and ensure
smooth distribution of safety-guaranteed products.
Approximately 20 types of major EC Directives have been issued so far for product safety.
Among these directives, the CE marking (attachment of CE mark) is mandatory in specific products when
target products are distributed in the EU countries. Target products are classified into several purpose
categories including industry/medical treatment, driving equipment, electrical tool and information equipment.
Tension controllers are classified into the purpose category "industry/medical treatment", and
designed for use in industrial applications.
Among EC Directives, the EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Directive and LVD (Low Voltage Directive)
are applicable to tension controllers handled as electric parts in mechanical products.
1) EMC Directive
The EMC Directive requires the following:
• Not to issue strong electromagnetic waves to the outside:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - Emission: EMI (electromagnetic interference)
• Not affected by electromagnetic waves coming from the outside:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - Immunity: EMS (electromagnetic susceptibility)
2) LVD Directive
The LVD is put into effect to distribute safe products which do not give hazards and damages to people,
objects and properties.
For example, tension controllers are required not to cause electrical shock, fire and injury.
Conformity to EC Directives (CE marking)
The CE marking does not assure that the entire mechanical system manufactured using the LE-30CTN
conforms to the following directives.
The manufacturer of the entire mechanical system should judge finally whether the entire mechanical
system conforms to the EMC Directive and LVD.
