2000 400A, 60Hz Ferroresonant Rectifier J85503C-3
Issue 10 July 2000
Testing 6 - 13
Meter Test
1. Adjust the load so that the rectifier delivers approximately 200
amperes, 50% of its rated current capacity.
2. Connect a DMM, set on the dc millivolt scale, across test points
E25 and E26 on the CM1 329A Fuse Board. See Figure 6-2.
3. Observe the DMM and record the rectifier’s shunt voltage. The
shunt is rated 500A/50mV (each millivolt of voltage drop across
the shunt indicates 10A of output current).
4. To convert the DMM voltage reading to amperes, multiply the
DMM reading in millivolts by 10. For example, if the DMM reads
20mV, then 20mV X 10A/mV = 200A of output current.
5. Compare the amperes calculated in Step 4 with the digital display
of the rectifier meter while the switch is in the AMPS position.
6. If the rectifier display is between ±2% ±2A of amperes calculated
in Step 4, This procedure is completed.
7. If the rectifier current display is not within the range indicated in
Step 6, calibrate the CM3 card via its R15 potentiometer as
specified in Section 7.
Off-line Test
Completion
1. Reduce the load to zero.
2. Turn the Power switch Off.
3. Turn off the ac power at the ac service panel.
4. Disconnect and remove the Battery Plant Simulator Test Set, the
DMM (Digital Multimeter), and the test load.
5. If the reason for performing the rectifier tests was to affirm the
operation of the rectifier, and was not part of total plant testing,
restore the rectifier to service by following the procedures in
Section 7. If this is part of total plant testing, leave the plant
control cable disconnected at this time, until directed to reconnect
it as part of another plant procedure.
