Maximum Rate
The MxRate parameter sets the fastest rate at which the LFO runs. Each LFO runs at the
maximum rate when its RateCt parameter is set to ON, or when the control source assigned
to RateCt is at its maximum value.
Rate Control
Use the RateCt parameter to assign a control source to modulate the LFO rate between the
minimum and maximum rates.
Shape
Use the Shape parameter to select an LFO waveform shape. The LFO wave shape determines
the nature of its effect on the signal its modulating. For example, the Sine waveforms move
smoothly between values, while the Square waveforms jump abruptly between values.
Phase
Use the Phase parameter to determine the LFO’s start point in the waveform.
When an LFO is local, the phase parameter determines the start point in the LFO waveform
for each note. For example, you could make sure every vibrato started below the pitch
you played instead of at the pitch you played. The LFO’s phase also affects global LFOs,
although it’s often indistinguishable, since global LFOs start running as soon as the program
containing them is selected, even if you don’t play any notes.
One complete cycle of the LFO is 360 degrees, and each 90-degree increment in the phase
represents a quarter-cycle of the LFO. For example, 0 degrees phase will play the LFO from
the start of the waveform, 90 degrees phase will play the LFO from a quarter way through
the waveform, 180 degrees phase will play the LFO from half way through the waveform,
and 270 degrees phase will play the LFO from three quarters through the waveform.
ASR Parameters
ASRs are unipolar envelopes with three sections: attack, sustain, and release. The PC4’s ASRs
can be triggered in a variety of ways, and can also be looped for use as periodic (repeating)
control sources, similar to LFOs.
ASR1 is always local, meaning that it’s triggered with each Note On event, and runs
independently for each note in the layer.
ASR2 is local by default, but can be made global by setting the Common page Globals
parameter to On. Global ASRs uniformly affect every note in each layer, and start running as
soon as the program containing them is selected, even if you don’t play any notes.
