OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

FIFTH WHEEL

The following applies to prime mover configurations:

Ensure that all fifth wheel maintenance, adjustments and rebuilding 

are done only by a qualified technician.  An improperly maintained 

fifth wheel can cause a trailer to separate from a truck. This could 

lead to an injury or accident and damage to property.

FIFTH WHEEL JAW LOCK

To unlock the fifth wheel lock

Pull out on the lever (usually located on the right-hand side of the fifth 

wheel) until it remains in an overcentre position.

HOOK-UP

After connecting your truck to the trailer, always inspect the jaws to be 

sure they have locked on the kingpin before you drive the vehicle.  Use 

the trailer hand piece to check that trailer kingpin and 5

th

 wheel jaws are 

fully engaged.

AIR ACTIVATED 5

TH

 WHEEL RELEASE PROCEDURE

5th Wheels:

1.  Apply Parking brake.
2.  Switch the 5

th

 Wheel release switch to the UNLOCK position.

3.  A warning light on release switch illuminates.
4.  Push and HOLD the 5

th

 wheel release switch on the dash for at 

least 1 second to release the 5

th

 wheel.

5.  Switch the 5

th

 wheel release switch to the LOCK position when 

the trailer has been released.

6.  All 5

th

 wheel warning lights must be OFF.
