Personal Workstations there are two Slot 2 processor slots, along with
three VRM sockets. A single Pentium III Xeon processor for Slot 2 must be accompanied by
two VRMs inserted in VRM sockets 1 and 2 (from left to right). Single processor models
can be upgraded to a dual processor system by installing a second processor accessory in
the vacant slot. The second processor must be a Pentium III Xeon processor for Slot 2 of
the same speed and Level 2 cache memory capacity as the first, and same Level 2 cache
voltage. The VRM that was supplied with the second processor must be installed in the
vacant third VRM slot.
NOTE When upgrading from a single processor to a dual processor with the
Hewlett-Packard processor accessory kit, you only need to check the processor
frequency speed and Level 2 cache memory capacity. This information can be
obtained by checking the label on the upper side of the processor. Processors
supplied with the Hewlett-Packard accessory kit are checked to ensure that
the Level 2 cache voltage is the same for all processors, and they have the
same frequency speed and Level 2 cache memory size.
It should be noted that Pentium III processors for Slot 1 are not compatible with Pentium
III Xeon processors for Slot 2. This means that you cannot upgrade a processor from a Slot
1 system to Slot 2.
The following table shows a comparison between the Pentium III Xeon processor for Slot 2
and Pentium III processor for Slot 1.
