software?
Different speeds in a network can be caused by the route the information travels. If
the packets are sent directly, then the speed should be high. If the packets are sent via
a machine which is busy, then they may be delayed. If you browser is getting all its
packet through the local web proxy server, then the speed of accessing the appliance
to view web pages, and download software could be slower than the backup speed.
The reason the backup and restore operations are fast is because the software has set
up a direct link to the appliance and the web proxy server doesn't get in the way.
Check your browser settings. Set the configuration so that all internal addresses used
by the browser are sent directly rather than through the proxy.
In Netscape this is done through the Edit
->
Preferences... menu choice. Select
Advanced and then Proxies
In IE4 this is done through the View
->
Internet Options... menu choice. Select the
Connection tab and check the Bypass proxy server for local (Intranet) addresses
checkbox.
How do I reset the network configuration
settings for the appliance?
There is a method to reset the whole appliance, which includes the administrators
password and the network settings. This involves pressing the power button four
times once the appliance has finished its boot-up sequence. The LCD will then
display the text "Repeat button sequence to confirm reset" Four more presses of the
power switch confirms the command and resets the appliance. This will reset the
networking configuration of the appliance, and the installation utility on the
Installation CD-ROM will need to be run again.
Note this will NOT destroy any backup accounts or data stored on the appliance.
