recovery
A
disaster recovery
to a computer with no operating system
installed. Therefore, one must load a minimal operating system on
the computer before recovery can begin.
baseline backup The first backup performed on a protected computer. This backup
usually takes significantly longer than later backups, as every file
must be compared with the contents of the
appliance
. Your
computer will display a confirmation screen when the baseline
backup has been successfully completed.
BIOS fail-safe
The features that ensure the appliance can boot up: for example,
the BIOS checks the temperature and voltage settings.
boot floppy
A floppy disk created as part of a
disaster recovery
data set. The
boot floppy needs to be inserted before the computer to be
restored is turned on. Not all disaster recovery data sets use a boot
floppy: a bootable CD will be created if the end computer can
boot from one.
bootable CD
A CD-ROM created as part of a
disaster recovery
data set. This
CD-ROM should be inserted before the computer to be restored is
turned on. If there are multiple CD-ROMs in the data set, only one
will be bootable.
C
capacity limit
Capacity is the amount of disk space available for backing up
protected computers. The appliance places a limit on the amount
of space that can be used, an administrator can change this limit.
A
critical status indicator
will appear on the
Status tab page
when
the capacity limit has been reached.
capacity
warning
threshold
The amount of disk space that will cause a
warning status
indicator
to appear on the
Status tab page
. This threshold is a
percentage of the
capacity limit
.
CD-ROM
A disk containing information (as opposed to music) that is
readable by a computer's CD drive. Specifically, with respect to
HP SureStore
AutoBackup
, one created as part of a disaster
recovery data set.
CD-Writer
A device for creating (disaster recovery) CD-ROMs. Each HP
SureStore AutoBackup server is configured with one.
