3.3.2 ION Calibration
Ion electrodes can measure ion concentrations. But, a
skill is necessary for more accurate measurement.
Refer to the instruction manual of the electrode and the
following descriptions.
Up to 5 points ion calibration is possible.
1. Addition of ionic strength conditioner to sample
The effect of the ionic strength may cause an error in
measurement values. Adjust ionic strength by adding
the designated reagent to the sample and standard
solutions. And it will allow you to make accurate
measurement.
2. pH effect of sample
The applicable pH range depends on the type and
structure of the ion electrode. Check that the pH of each
sample is within the applicable range. If the pH is out of
the range, adjust the sample pH using the reagent that
does not contain any ions to be measured or interfering.
3. Electric potential slope measured by ion mea-
surement method
Ion concentration measurement is affected by the
temperature of solution to be measured in accordance
with the Nerst formula. Also, no stirring will cause slow
response, measurement failure in low concentrations, or
the fluctuation of readings. Use a temperature controlled
bath with a stirrer for standard solution calibration and
sample measurement.
